Obituary

Nina Tamara Grecenko of Southbury passed away on Wednesday August 31st at River Glen Nursing Facilities after a brief illness. Nina was born in The Czech Republic on August 7th 1929. After immigrating to the United States she lived in New York City, and eventually settled in Southbury at Charaevka Village where there were many Russian immigrants. Nina's parents, George Grecenko Sr. and Vera (Ruzichka) Grecenko and her brother George B. Grecenko Jr. then resided at Grecenko and Son Poultry Farm business that they worked hard to build, adjacent to Charaevka Village. She received a Master's degree in education in 1949 from The University of Connecticut. She was a world traveler and accepted a teaching position in Iraq and Iran. After returning to the United States she began teaching in the Newtown, Ct. school system where she taught remedial reading until retirement. She was an avid reader and became a go to person for all types of information especially enjoyed by her nieces and nephew. She loved visits to the public library. She will be remembered always for her independence, generosity, intelligence, and wit. One of her loves was hosting holidays for the family at her home, especially orthodox Easter Sunday. She was a breast cancer survivor. She leaves niece Elayne L.Carlson and her husband Carl of Watertown, Ct, niece Tamara V. Hoffman and her husband George of New Hampshire. A nephew Jim G. Grecenko Sr. of Litchfield Me. Grandnieces, Erin Carlson and Molly Hoffman, Grandnephews, James G. Grecenko Jr., Mischa, Gunnar, and George Hoffman. Sister in-law, Lois Grecenko, and sister in-law Mary Grecenko. She is predeceased by brother George B. Grecenko Jr. The family would like to thank the care givers at Always Best Care, Season's Hospice, and River Glen nursing home. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
