"Family man, Veteran, kind soul"

Nicholas Mario Gabriele, age 89, was peacefully called Home to be with his beloved wife Carolyn on Sept. 5, 2022, holding the hands & hearts of his loving family.

Nick was born in Waterbury, CT on June 14, 1933, the 3rd of 4 sons of Giovanni and Annamaria Gabriele.

He was a loving, kind, noble, very complex & independent man. We will miss his amazing stories….Of being a tool & die maker for Scovills in Oakville CT for over 35 years, a Corporal in the US Army fighting in the foxholes of the Korean War, playing the double Bass in a band, our family camping trips, & NY Giants games. He enjoyed every kind of food and pastry imaginable!

Nick took whatever life handed him in stride, including lovingly caring for his wife for over a decade, until she pre-deceased him in 2010. His contagious laugh will never be forgotten. He loved his Florida home, & always had room for us to visit. We will cherish our adventures we shared traveling with him to all the theme parks in Florida, as well as to Wisconsin, NYC, Outer Banks, NC, & Key West.

His legacy lives on forever in his 3 children: Debbie Gabriele (Steve Wolff), Cindy Gabriele, Nick Gabriele (Diane Lavoie); 10 grandchildren: Sarah, Josh, Myriah, Kaitlin, Adam, Cassandra, Kelsey, Madison, Sophia, & Ben; and 6 great-grandchildren: Damon, Blayze, Gage, Eric, Stella, & Cora.

Family would like to thank staff at Valerie Manor in Torrington for their care, kindness & love shown to Nick during his various short-term stays over the past few years.

Nick leaves behind a big legacy that centers around the importance of family, making memories, and not taking things too seriously…always saying: "It ain't no big deal!"  Well, Dad….. THIS IS A BIG DEAL! We will miss you so much.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Munson- Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St. Woodbury, CT 06798. Family memories will be shared at 5:30 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist, 574 Main St. Watertown, CT. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nick's name may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
