Mildred (Millie) Uranus, 87, of Woodbury, CT, passed away on July 13, 2026. Born on August 2, 1938, in Woodbury, CT, she was a lifelong resident and an active member of her community.
Millie graduated from Woodbury High School and completed her nursing education at Waterbury Hospital Nursing School in 1959 before spending two years in Malaya as a member of the Peace Corps. Millie’s nursing career spanned over 50 years and included roles as an operating room and anesthesia nurse at Waterbury Hospital and hospitals in Florida and Boston.
She was a devout Catholic, attending mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Washington, CT and Prince of Peace Parish in Woodbury, CT. Millie was deeply involved in the community as an active member of the Woodbury Women's Club, a lifetime member of the Bethlehem Fair Society and its needlework committee, the Red Hat Society, and the Woodbury senior center. She frequently volunteered with the Woodbury Ambulance Association and the Woodbury food bank. Beyond her professional and volunteer work, Millie was an expert quilter and needlepointer and an avid traveler who explored dozens of countries.
Millie will be remembered for her generosity, love for her community, and devotion to her family. She is survived by her brothers, Philip and Richard Butkus (Joan); nieces, Sarah Slater (Daniel), Martha Stutsky (Daniel), and Donna Poliquin (Marc); and nephew, Richard Butkus, Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Butkus, and brother, Joseph Butkus Jr.
Calling hours will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 34 Green Hill Rd. Washington, CT., on Saturday July 18, 2026 starting at 9:30 am, followed immediately by a funeral service at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery 2324 E. Main St., in Waterbury, CT.
