Michael E.
Nyce, Sr.
Mar 6, 1957 — Jun 29, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Nyce, age 69, of Southbury, Connecticut, who died unexpectedly at home on Monday, June 29, 2026. Born on March 6, 1957, in Danbury, Connecticut, Michael was the cherished son of Neal and Doris Nyce. Michael dedicated much of his life to his career as a Research Associate and Chemical Engineer at City College of New York. For 17 years, he used his expertise to educate others about batteries and cells, significantly impacting his field. Prior to this role, he contributed many years to Electro Energy and Energy Research Corporation in Danbury, where he was a mentor and guide to numerous colleagues.
Michael's greatest joy came from the love of his life, Olivia Saraiva, with whom he shared nearly 40 beautiful years. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and laughter. Michael is survived by his son, Michael Nyce Jr., along with his stepdaughters, Jennifer and Michelle Saraiva. He was a loving grandfather to his granddaughters, Shayne and Dylan Nyce, and he leaves behind his loyal dog, Ronnie, who was a constant companion.
Outside of his professional life, Michael found happiness in spending time with family, tending to his yard, and dining at restaurants with loved ones. His playful spirit and kind nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Michael is predeceased by his parents and two beloved dogs, Maya and Ray. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love, inspiring all to cherish the moments spent with family and friends. Funeral services and commemorative ceremonies will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Santini and the wonderful staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for dedication, compassion, and care.
We invite all those whose lives were touched by Michael to join us in commemorating his life and sharing our collective memories of a truly remarkable man.
