Michael John McCartney, 70, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Born on January 17, 1955, at Waterbury Hospital, he was the son of the late Shirley and Emmet McCartney. Michael was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and a lifelong resident of the area. He worked for many years at Mercury Fuel Service.

A lifelong bassist and devoted musician, Michael's love of music shaped much of his life. He played in bands for decades and never lost his passion for performing.

Above all, Michael was a deeply devoted and loving father. His daughters, Naya and Melissa McCartney, were the center of his world, and he remained a steady, supportive presence in their lives. His warmth, humor, and unwavering loyalty as a dad will be remembered always.

Michael is survived by his daughters; his brother, Kevin McCartney; and his former wife, Nadia McCartney.

A private service will be held for the immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
