IN LOVING MEMORY OF
May Molly
Thurn
November 22, 1922 – July 12, 2007
May "Molly" Thurn, 84, of Woodbury, died Thursday, July 12 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury, just 10 weeks after the death of her devoted husband John, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of married life. Mrs. Thurn was born November 22, 1922 in Manchester, England. She moved to Belfast during her childhood and went on to complete her education at the Sorbonne University in Paris. Returning to Belfast, she was appointed the first female bank teller in Ireland. Mrs. Thurn spent 3 and half years with the Royal Navy in Belfast during the war years before immigrating to New York with her sister Desmo. On arrival to New York in the 1950's, she pointed to the tallest building and told her sister she would work there. Within months, she started to work for Cyanamid, which was located in that building. She was put in charge of a new department that would trace product usage as the world economy recovered after the war. She returned to Dublin in 1957 to marry John A. Thurn, a fellow immigrant from Japan and Switzerland. They settled in Long Island, New York, where, in keeping with his family tradition, Mrs. Thurn retired after achieving so much by her 35th birthday. They will both be missed by their many friends in Locust Valley, NY and the friends they have made in the past 30 years living a contended retirement in Woodbury. She is survived by her identical twin sister, Margaret of Dublin, Ireland; a brother, Jack from England. She was pre-deceased by her sister Desmo and brother Leo.
