Obituary


Lt. Col. Mauno A. Lindholm, 91, formerly of Riverside and Greenwich, Ct died Friday June 12th at the Brandywine Assisted Living Center in Litchfield. Mr. Lindholm was the husband of the late Miriam (Blomqvist) Lindholm. He was born October 19, 1917 Port Chester, NY son of the late Carl and Tynne (Liimatainen) Lindholm. He was a World War Two B-25 pilot with the 8 the Air Force in North Africa, flying 62 missions. He flew with Joseph Heller, the author of Catch 22, and was the real life Milo Minderbinder of that novel. Lindy worked full time with the NY Air National Guard in White Plains as the Director of Materials and a command pilot. Subsequently he went on to own Knickerbocker Aviation at Sikorsky Airport, Stratford. He was a Mason, a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the YMCA in Greenwich, Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and the Air Force Association.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Curtis and Wendy Lindholm of Woodbury, a brother John Lindholm of Wakefield, RI, a sister Florence Byrnes of Rye, NY and 2 grandsons, John and Mark Lindholm. He was predeceased by a son Frederick and a brother Edwin.
Lindy was passionate about life and whatever he chose to do whether it was building his dream home in Riverside with the help of his Finnish father and father in law, being the Troop 3 Scout Master in Old Greenwich, playing handball at the Greenwich YMCA, flying, and traveling the world with his wife. He touched everyone on his path through life in a positive way. He had a great life.
