Obituary

Mary (Cherepinsky) Pinevich passed away November 22, 2020 at River Glenn rehabilitation center surrounded in her heart by family and friends after a brief illness just two months short of her 97th birthday. Mary was born January 20, 1924 in Waterbury Ct where she attended local schools and graduated from Leavenworth high school.  She was one of five children born to Zachery and Kashka   Cherepinsky. After graduation she met and married Paul her husband for over fifty years. They moved to Woodbury and raised four children and lived for most of her adult life before joining her daughter Pat in Watertown.

During the war effort Mary worked for Scoville manufacturing before starting her family.  She then was a homemaker and mother until her children were old enough for her to return to the workforce as manager of Jean Hutchinson, a clothing boutique in Woodbury. She worked there until her retirement when she left to care for her husband in his failing health.

Mary loved to sew and was a talented seamstress, she crafted many beautiful outfits for her children to celebrate the holidays especially Easter when she fashioned coats and dresses for her daughter and blazers for the boys.  Mary also loved to knit and crochet.  Of all her pursuits gardening was her favorite, her dahlias, poppies and old fashion roses were her pride and joy. She also enjoyed working outdoors and could be seen raking leaves, pulling weeds or tending to her flower beds into her nineties  In her later years her hobbies turned to bird watching , cooking, crossword puzzles, watching wheel of fortune ,jeopardy but most especially visits to Foxwood casino.

Mary was a wonderful mother and friend with a caring nature.  She was loved for her quick wit and easy-going nature.  Mary loved her cats especially Rocco, Cleo and Milly.  When she joined her daughter, she adopted Easton and Winston as her grand dogs.

Mary is survived by her son Michael (Deborah) Pinevich of Woodbury and Patricia (Paul) Therault of Watertown.  She is also survived by her granddaughter Samantha Therault of Branford, Chris Pinevich (Holly) of Prospect, step grandchildren Nicki (Rob)Miles of England and Vanessa Goz of Florida. She is also survived by great-grandchild Giuliana and Chris Pinevich Maddy and Emmie Miles and Cora Goz. She is predeceased by her husband Paul and son Paul Jr,

The family would like to thank the nurses, CNAs and staff member of River Glen for making her final days as comfortable as possible.  They also wish to especially thank Patti and Laura Alehandri who became part of the family, for their loving care when Mary moved to her daughter's home.  They showed her love and compassion taking her to weekly hairdresser appointments, lunches and trips to the casino.

Munson Lovetere Funeral Home of Woodbury will oversee the arrangements.  The family is hoping to have a small celebration of Mary's life in January on or near her birthday.  In lieu of flowers friends are asked to donate to the Watertown fire department, the Glenholme School of Washington Ct or a shelter serving the welfare homeless of animals in Mary's memory.
