Mary Crystal Griz, age 92, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2006 at St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull. Previously, Mary resided in Bethlehem for 45 years. Born on November 2, 1913 in Elkhorn, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Eva (Neila) Hopstock. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Prof. Andrew M. Griz, previous Cantor of St. John The Baptist Church of Mill Hill Ave. in Bridgeport and her baby son Michael. She was also pre-deceased by her sisters Sophie & Ann and brothers, Paul & Peter. An avid Husky Basketball fan and homemaker, Mary's family was everything to her and she especially enjoyed sharing her love of cooking with them. Survivors include her son, Andrew A. Griz and his wife Carol of Stratford; daughters Stephanie Leko and her husband James of Stratford and Suzanne Gaboardi and her husband Robert of Norcross, Georgia; grandchildren Michelle and Michael Griz, Christina Saxa and her husband Ken, Kimberly Leko and her long time companion Gary Tenk, Melissa and Robbie Gaboardi; 4 great grandchildren, Kiley, Michael, Nicholas and Camryn Saxa, all of Orange; step-children, Emil Smith, Danielle Smith, Michelle Charney and her husband Brian and step grandchild Alexander Charney. Funeral Monday at 8:00 a.m. from the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School Street, to St. Teresa's Church, Main St. South, Woodbury, for a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Bethlehem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Manor, in care of Pastoral Care, 6448 Main St., Trumbull, CT 06611.
