Mary Jane Cushwa Houle passed away on November 15th 2025 at the new Vance Hospital in Danbury Connecticut after a long illness.

Born the first daughter of David K. Cushwa Jr. and Ida (Ramacciotti) Cushwa. Mary Jane lived and attended Elementary School in Williamsport, MD. She later transferred to St Mary's Catholic High School in Hagerstown, MD., graduating as valedictorian of her class. She attended The College of New Rochelle receiving a B.A. degree in Art. She further attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison there receiving a master's degree in social work.

She held various Social Work positions, such as an adoption specialist, a psychotherapist in a mental health facility, ending her professional career as a social worker in the Waterbury CT public school system.

In addition to her professional activities, her life-long study of art in its many forms gave rise to an interest in interior design and antiques in which she engaged throughout most of her adult life. She also had several hobbies and in her own inimitable style excelled at each. She was a studious Bridge player, an avid skier, favoring the Italian Alps and once shot a hole in one in golf.

Mary Jane's delightfully perceptive intelligence, paired with a warm and witty charm, made her a genuine pleasure to be around. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Mary Jane is survived by her two sons, John Niglis of Southbury, Curtis Niglis and his wife Patricia of Poynette, WI., and her husband Dr Thomas Houle. All services will be private and will take place at the Rose Hill Cemetery - Hagerstown MD.
