Mary Ellen Cohen, age 56, of Bridgewater, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 14, 2011. She was the devoted wife of the late William Cohen, M.D.
Mary Ellen was born August 1, 1954, in Derby, daughter of Florence W. Hofmann of Newtown and the late Irving H. Hofmann Jr. Mary Ellen was raised in Seymour and lived most of her adult life in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before moving to Bridgewater. A graduate of Seymour High School and Hartford Hospital School of Allied Health, Mary Ellen initially worked as a certified operating room technician. She later earned her degree in nursing from Broward Community College and worked for many years in the operating room in Florida and Connecticut hospitals. Most recently, she served as orthopedic coordinator at Greenwich Hospital. She was also a school nurse at The Rumsey Hall School in Washington. Throughout her career, Mary Ellen was highly regarded by those who worked with her and made numerous lasting friendships.
Mary Ellen loved to travel and spent much of her leisure time planning memorable vacations to destinations both domestic and abroad. She was a collector of antiques and also enjoyed gardening, reading and rooting for the NY Giants. More than anything, Mary Ellen took pleasure in spending time with her beloved daughter, Blakeley Cohen.
Besides her mother and daughter, she leaves behind her brother, Irving H. Hofmann III, and his wife Debbie of Oxford; her sister Anne Uberti and her husband James of Woodbury; her nephews Kevin Hofmann and Nicholas Uberti and her nieces Erin Hofmann Lane, Adrienne Hofmann and Elise Uberti.

Services: a memorial service to celebrate Mary Ellen's life will follow at 7 p.m.
Visitation: Calling hours will be held Wednesday May 18th at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, from 5 to 7 p.m.
