Obituary

Marsha Jean Burritt (Zera) 64, of Woodbury, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer in her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Gordon R. Burritt for the past 47 years.
Marsha was born in Greenfield, MA on July 18, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Worden) Zera. She worked as a paraprofessional at Polk School in Watertown, CT and enjoyed her summers teaching Arts & Crafts at Judd Farm Day Camp in Watertown, CT for the past 38 years. She also previously worked for Canfield Corner Pharmacy in Woodbury for many years. Marsha loved flowers and gardening - but usually the "weeds" would win as she would always say.
She was extremely active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She started her journey with the O.E.S. with Goodwill Chapter #112 in Waterbury CT., where she served as Worthy Matron multiple times. She also took a joint membership with Pomperaug Chapter, where she again held the Office of Worthy Matron repeatedly. She served the Grand Chapter of Connecticut as Grand Martha and is a Past President of the Former Grand Officers Association. She spent countless hours traveling from chapter to chapter and filling in wherever help was needed.
Marsha also served as the Queen of Aisha Temple #83, Daughters of the Nile. She was always ready to give a helping hand to the chapter and fill whatever office was open at any given meeting.
She was a member of the Washington Grange that merged with the Bethlehem Chapter #112. Marsha served on various committees of the chapter.
Marsha was Past Regent of Johnathan Trumbull-Melicent Porter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and loved to page at the annual Constitution Conventions in Washington D.C., where she even once got to touch the presidential seal on the podium.
When her children were younger she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and a Den Mother. When she had granddaughters she did it all a second time.
She loved to shop the "Sales", because she and her granddaughters never bought anything if it wasn't marked "sale" or so the family was told.
Besides her husband Gordon, she leaves a sister Marilyn of Waterbury, two daughters, Dorothy Petit and her husband Richard of Waterbury, Janet Morgan and her husband Frank of Woodbury, two sons; William Burritt and Howard Burritt of Woodbury and three beloved granddaughters who were the apples of her eyes - Jessica Jean Morgan of Albany, NY., Kristina Reid and her husband Mark of Wyoming and Sharon Rosas and her husband Pedro of Watertown.
A special thanks to Kris Jenson of the VNS of Oxford for her loving care and devotion to Marsha and Gordon during this trying time for all involved.
