Marion H. Pickett, 89, died peacefully in her home on February 20, 2014, surrounded in love by her family. She was the wife of the late William H. Pickett. Marion was born March 6, 1924, in Watertown, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Earl and Margaret (Dyment) Hayes. She was predeceased in death by her son Barry William Pickett and her husband "Bill."Marion worked as an instructor on the first electro-mechanical computers at IBM during WWII, until 1949, when she married her husband Bill. They moved to Woodbury in 1961from Norwood, MA. Later she worked as a bookkeeper in many local retail shops. Over the years, she served as a volunteer for organizations including Flanders Nature Center, Welcome Wagon, Waterbury Children's Symphony, Meals on Wheels and Fish. Her hobbies included sewing clothing and slipcovers, painting inside and out, knitting and home repairs - a Jackie of all trades. Marion was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be remembered for her selfless, loving ways and her laughter and joy in life. Her house was a welcoming beacon of light over the years to countless friends and family members. Her children and grandchildren spent every Christmas and summer vacation with Marion, because there was "no one we'd rather be with."
She is survived by her three children, Jane Pickett, Scott Pickett and his wife Melody and Craig Pickett and his wife Nina; six grandchildren, Rachel Soper and her partner Michael Stolzer, Larz Soper and his wife Gabriella, Jenna Roberts and her husband Jared, Alecia Pickett and her partner Emilie Arseneault, Conor Pickett and Sean Pickett; two great grandchildren, Talia and Aria Soper; one niece and five nephews. The family wishes to thank all the extraordinary hospice care providers from Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut, Inc. They are angels on this earth.

Funeral: North Congregational Church
Services: A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 10: 30 A.M. at North Congregational Church in Woodbury. A private burial will be held in the spring in New North Cemetery.
