Marina F.D. Melvin died peacefully in her sleep at home on Friday July 3, 2009, after a brief illness.
Marina was born in Leicester England on September 4, 1934, daughter of Tom and Winifred (Lount) Lyon. She studied Librarianship at Loughbrough College, England, and was an Associate of the Library Association (ALA). After working at the Leicester City Library, she became a technical librarian at the English Electric Company in Rugby, England.
She married Terry Melvin in Leicester in 1956. Two years later, she moved with her husband and daughter, Helen, to Edinburgh Scotland where she had her second daughter, Ruth, in 1961.
In 1966 she immigrated with her husband and daughters to America, living for 9 years in Wickford, Rhode Island. In 1975 she moved with her family to Southbury, Connecticut, and subsequently to Somers, CT in 1978. During this time she was employed as a Sales Associate by Star Drug Co. of New Haven.
After retirement, in 1977, she moved to Ormond Beach, Florida and returned to Southbury in 2007.
Marina is survived by her husband Terry, her younger daughter Ruth Griswold, and her grandchildren Kimberly and Andrew Griswold. She is predeceased by Helen, her elder daughter, who died in Florida in 2006.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all.
