Mrs. Marie Gaffney, 89, a resident of Motif by Monarch in Southbury died Wednesday , March 19, 2025. She was the wife of the late Mr. Harry J. Gaffney.

Mrs. Gaffney was born January 11, 1936 in New York City, the daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Ponsiglione) DiRuocco. Formerly a sister of St. Joseph, she was known as Sister Alma de Lourdes and was a teacher in the Brooklyn Diocese of New York. She later taught at Westbury Long Island High School and St. Joseph College in Brooklyn, NY.

Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney moved to Heritage Village in Southbury in 2000, where Marie was the President of the New Villagers. She was the former President of the Woman's Club and was an active member of the Heritage Singers and the Theatre Guild. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, opera, visiting museums and Mahjong.

Marie is survived by two stepdaughters and a stepdaughter in law, Eileen Morra, Elizabeth Gaffney and Kathleen Gaffney.

A wake will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 10 am, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 am at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury.

Burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, New York.
