Marie D. Alfano, 84, died Sunday March 13, at her home, The Lutheran Home in Southbury. Marie was born June 3, 1931 in Rhinecliff, New York, daughter of the late Antonio Caggianelli Sr. and Maria C. (Cappollino) Caggianelli. She attended high school and worked as an aide in convalescent homes as well as working in the kitchen at St. Vincent's Hospital, Bridgeport.
Marie was the wife of the late John George Rallis, Sr., with whom she had a son John George Rallis Jr., and daughter Tina Marie (Rallis) Lombardi. Marie was also the wife of her beloved, the late James Alfano for over thirty years.
Marie was a sweet lady with a compassion for those who needed help especially in the Lutheran Home. She was an eager attendant of all the recreation activities offered especially being with her good friend and adopted sister, Rebecca. She loved the outdoors with fresh air and bright sunshine and was grateful for the beauty of the green trees & landscape. She liked going for walks, visiting tag sales and antique shops, going out to eat, petting and sitting with all the cats and Emma & Duke at her nieces' house and at 79, loved kayaking adventures. Marie also loved her entire family, She is predeceased by her sisters Rose, Maddalana, Jean and Elaine and her brothers Antonio, Michele, Edward, John and Joseph. She is survived by her brothers and their wives, Bud & Joyce Caggianelli and Ted & Barbara Caggianelli as well as many nieces and nephews, including Father Greg Caggianelli who will officiate her burial this summer in New York. She is also survived by her son John Rallis Jr. & friend Sheila, and daughter Tina (Rallis) Lombardi & husband Steven Warshawsky, grandchildren Frankie & Alicia Lombardi, and Jennifer & Silvino Ramirez and great grandchildren Mariela and Gabriela Ramirez. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at the Lutheran Home of Southbury for the excellent care & loving kindness she received there.
