Marian Spodnick, 98, of Bridgewater, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on March 5, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband, George. Marian was born in Mitchell, Iowa to the late Clarence and Florence Biederman. She was a cadette nurse during World War II and met George at a hospital in Ames, Iowa where he was training. He was sent overseas and they continued to correspond until the war was over. They were married in 1946 and settled in their Bridgewater home where she lived her entire life.
She enjoyed various clubs including the Homemakers and in her later years enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center especially with the Silver Needles quilters. She was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church. She was an assistant to Grace Meddaugh, the town clerk, for several years. She was always known for liking a good cup of coffee and anything chocolate. She was a huge UCONN basketball fan. She also enjoyed many traveling tours with her friends including to Ireland, Nova Scotia and New Orleans.
Marian is survived by her four children, Sandra Douskey, Shelley Hotchkiss of Sharon, Lori Deanne and husband Rich of Washington, and son Wayne, as well as 3 granddaughters, Jessie (Lane) Grecke and husband Brian, Nicole and Emily Deanne. She will always be remembered for her smile and positive outlook. Donations in her memory may be made to the Bridgewater Fire and Ambulance Department.
