Obituary


Margaret T. Carlquist "Nana", age 96, of Old Waterbury Road died Monday October 7, 2013 at Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold T. Carlquist, Sr.
Mrs. Carlquist was born April 1, 1917 in Bridgeport, daughter of the late George and Barbara (Revak) Toth. She had lived in Southbury since 1936, where she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Mother's Club, which later became the Merry Makers Club.
She was active in the Democratic Town Committee for over 65 years, and to date was its oldest member. Throughout her political career, Mrs. Carlquist had received many awards, most recently, in 2009; she was awarded the Ella T. Grasso Award from the Connecticut Federation of Democratic Women. She had spoken in the State Capitol as an advocate for elderly home health care, a cause she was passionate about.
She is survived by a daughter Barbara A. Jenkins and her husband John of Bethlehem, 2 Grandsons, William Carlquist Jr. and his wife Michelle, Harold H. Carlquist, 2 granddaughters, Heather J. Burke and her husband Robert, Barbara J. Steneck and her husband Gino, 7 great grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Emily Carlquist, Katie and R.J. Burke, J.J. and Madeline Margaret Steneck, a sister Rose Torok of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was pre deceased by a son, William L. Carlquist. She was also predeceased by her beloved special needs son, Harold T. Carlquist, Jr. (Teddy) whom she lovingly cared for in her home throughout his entire life, in an era when many of these children were institutionalized.

Funeral: United Church of Christ

Services: A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ 283 Main St. North, Southbury on Monday October 14th at 10am. A private burial will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Visitation: Friends may call the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North on Sunday October 13th from 3 - 6pm.
