SOUTHBURY, CT.- Margaret Buscher Andrews, 89, of Pomperaug Woods, died on September 14, 2010. She was the widow of William Andrews, whom she had met in college in 1941 and married fifty years later.
Mrs. Andrews was born August 3, 1921, in Far Rockaway, New York, the daughter of the late George and Mary (McCoul) Buscher. She attended Northfield School for Girls and graduated from Middlebury College in 1942, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Andrews was an avid and proficient bridge player, a prolific reader, and someone who cherished the experiences that her world travels afforded her. While a resident of Fairfield, she was active in the Fairfield Audubon Society and helped to start the gift shop at the Fairfield Historical Society. While living in Heritage Village, she and Bill volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Heritage Village Ambulance, and at Pomperaug Woods she continued her service on that community's resident committees.
Mrs. Andrews is survived by a daughter, Kathy Stroud, and her husband, Edward, of Port Jefferson, NY, and a son, Christopher, and his wife, Kathleen, of Fairfield, CT; granddaughters Jessica Thomas, and her husband, John, and Sarah Nofi, great-granddaughter Izabella Thomas and great-grandson Max Baldeh, all of Santa Cruz, CA; and Bill's children: Peggy Andrews and her husband, Barry Blades, of Bethel, CT; Nancy Andrews and her husband, John Rankin, of Amherst, MA; Mary Andrews, of Scarsdale, NY; Craig Andrews and his wife, Jill, of Yorktown Heights, NY; and Janet Andrews, of Whitehall, NY. Mrs. Andrews also leaves behind many beloved friends at Heritage Village and Pomperaug Woods, as well as her childhood friend Nina Danielsen of Princeton, NJ, and her college roommate, Helen Hooley Young, of Venice, FL.
Margaret will be reunited with her beloved Bill at the Church of the Epiphany in Southbury.
Mrs. Andrews' family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Pomperaug Health Center for their exceptionally compassionate and loving care, and to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Waterbury VNA Healthcare Hospice Team. They have provided invaluable comfort and support to Margaret and her family.
