Obituary

Beloved Father and Abuelo

Bethlehem – Luis Gonzalez, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at River Glen Health Care Center, surrounded by family.  He was born August 23, 1926, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Manual and Leonor (Bernal) Gonzalez.

In 1952, Luis arrived in Waterbury, CT from Adjuntas, Puerto Rico.  In 1953, he started his employment at Waterbury Corrugated Containers and in 1979, transferred to their Milford Plant, Boise Cascade.  He held various positions throughout his 35 years of dedicated service.  In 1988, he retired to spend more time with his family.  Especially, his grandchildren whom he adored and was so proud of.

Luis' first and foremost passion was his dear family who he spent lots of time with.  He had a very close relationship with them.  He was a true man of faith and enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved going to breakfast with the family at the Meriden Rd. Diner, The Tower Grill, Nicks and 7 Villages. He also enjoyed attending church with his ex-wife Baudilia and daughter Iris, reading his bible and newspaper, watching Mexican movies with his daughter, sharing his childhood memories with his grandchildren, listening to old traditional Puerto Rican music, and traveling to Puerto Rico. He loved animals particularly dogs; Charlie and most recently Max.

He was the best father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He touched many lives with his gentle, kindhearted, and sweet demeanor.  He always had a word of wisdom to offer and took pleasure in helping others never expecting anything in return.  His family would always request Luis' blessing (a Puerto Rican tradition) by saying, "Bendicion" and his response would be, "Que Dios te bendiga."  He will be missed by his family and friends more than words can ever express.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Iris Perry, and her husband David of Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Alyssa DeBarros and her husband Jonathan, Adriana Blocker and her husband Damian, Eric Quinones and his wife Ashleena; son-in-law Anibal Quinones; four great granddaughters Alana Reddick, Summer Quinones, Alexia and Giana Brownell; his brother Eduardo Gonzalez of New Jersey. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Luis is predeceased by his ex-wife Baudilia Plaza; daughter, Sonia Gonzalez; his sisters, Herminia and Estrella Gonzalez; brothers, Angel, Alberto, and Manuel Gonzalez.
