Hunt Stowell
April 29, 1941 – July 31, 2014
HUNT, LUCINDA C. (Cindy Hunt Stowell) died at home in Southbury, Connecticut, on July 31, 2014. She was born on April 29, 1941, in Elmira, NY to Clayton Edward Hunt, Jr., and Flora Wheeler Hunt. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Daniel M. Stowell, and her devoted sister, Gail Hunt Reeke (New York City) and brother-in-law George Reeke, her step-sons David and Robert Stowell and her step-daughter Linda Stowell, and two step-grandchildren. Raised in Rochester, NY, she graduated from Brighton High School and Ohio Wesleyan University, where she majored in mathematics. She spent her entire business career at IBM, with assignments in Columbus, OH; Chicago; White Plains; Stamford and Southbury, CT, in systems engineering, software development and management. After retiring from IBM in 1992, she sang for over 20 years with the Connecticut Choral Society and volunteered as a Master Gardener. She became actively involved in local conservation, environmental and philanthropic organizations, serving as a Board Member of Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust, Southbury Land Trust, and Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition, and providing pro bono consulting services in business process and management to the Connecticut Community Foundation and other non-profit organizations. She was also a founding commissioner and three-term member of the national Land Trust Accreditation Commission, which recognizes land trusts around the country that meet national quality standards to ensure the permanent protection of land. As a result of her planning and stewardship, the preservation of a great deal of land is being facilitated. Throughout her business career and volunteer activities, she was an inspiration to her family, friends and colleagues.
Memorials: She asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the permanently-restricted Land Trust Accreditation Commission Endowment, care of the Land Trust Alliance, 1660 L. Street, NW, Suite 1100, Washington, DC 20036.
