Woodbury - Louise (Macfarlane) Keating, 91, died on January 31, 2022 at VITAS at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Robert P. Keating.
Mrs. Keating was born April 27, 1930, in Albany, NY, daughter of William Duncan and Marjorie (Milliman) Macfarlane. She spent her early years in Loudonville, NY, graduating from the Doane-Stuart School. She received a BFA degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she met and later married Robert, an architectural student. Louise was employed as an advertising artist by the Outlet Department Store in Providence and by the Providence branch of the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers Map Service Drafting Department. After living in Guilderland, NY and Branford, CT, Robert designed their home in Woodbury, where he also opened his architectural office. Louise worked for Madeline West Antiques and she volunteered at the Woodbury Food Bank. She was a volunteer reader for the Connecticut Radio Information System for the Blind.
Louise was a longtime member of The Woman's Club of Woodbury and member of St. Teresa's Church. She enjoyed watercolor painting and completed a set of pen and ink sketches of many historic buildings in Woodbury. Through the years she has been commissioned to sketch many homes in Woodbury and surrounding towns. She enjoyed gardening and genealogy, tracing her Scottish ancestry after traveling to Scotland. She loved to vacation on Cape Cod and the Rhode Island shore.
Louise leaves her three children, Robert Keating, Jr. and partner Rita Valley, Susan Grudzien and husband, Edward, and Sarah Baywood and husband, Jeffrey; four grandchildren, Gina Grudzien, Lisa Dayton and husband Ryan, Erik Grudzien and fiancé Christine Morin, Charles Baywood and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Bennett, Calvin and Caroline Dayton, and several cousins.
A graveside celebration of life will be held in the Spring, close to Louise's birthday. Please check back for date and time.
