Louis Gordon Knowlton, III, 90, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in the VITAS unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 67 years, Margaret (Peggy) A. Knowlton.

Gordon was born on October 4, 1935 in Middlebury, Connecticut, the second son of the late Louis Gordon Knowlton II and Elsie Caroline Clark Knowlton. The town of Middlebury always held a special place in Gordon’s heart with many fond memories of growing up on “Fenn’s Pond.”

Gordon attended local schools, including Crosby High School and Cheshire Academy, and was a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut, Class of 1959. He was also a member of the Army National Guard.

After graduation, Gordon utilized his degree in industrial management working for the Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, the Mite Corporation in New Haven, and finally at the Kerite Corporation in Seymour where he worked as a purchasing agent for almost 30 years. Gordon found great satisfaction in his work but also found time to donate his interpersonal skills and mathematical mind to the Middlebury Cemetery Association, Watertown Fire District and First Congregational Church, Watertown.

Gordon enjoyed a very full life. He and Peggy created a wonderful and memorable family experience for their children and grandchildren. Skiing, sailing, camping, trips to Disney World and the beach were among the highlights, culminating with a three-week, cross-country driving trip hitting most of our country’s national parks.

Closer to home, Gordon enjoyed countless hours keeping a meticulous yard that was the envy of the Wilder Street neighborhood in Watertown.

Gordon is survived by his son, Scott G. Knowlton and his wife, Julie (Arvedon) Knowlton of Natick, Massachusetts and his daughter, Tara K. Prescott and her husband, Reverend Doctor Maner Tyson of Wolcott. Most importantly, Gordon’s memory will be honored and cherished by his four grandchildren, Aedan Knowlton, Megan Prescott, Neve Knowlton, and Melissa Prescott and his grand dogs.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 222 West Main Street, Waterbury. Burial will be private.
