Obituary

Terryville - Lorna May (Voegeli) Eckman, 72, died peacefully at home surrounded by the love and warmth of her family on January 23, 2020 after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.  She was born March 3, 1947  in Naugatuck, CT, the daughter of the late Louis and Della Voegeli.

She is survived by her husband Gordon L. Eckman of 42 years, her three children Carmen Chaparro (Andres) of Windsor, Jason Eckman (Linda) of Plymouth, and Chelsie Marple (Michael) of Terryville and the 5 true loves of her life, her grandchildren, Isabel, Julian, Jaden, Ellisyn, and Maddox.  She also leaves behind her three sisters, Linda Barrett of Southbury, CT, Donna Carnaroli of Middlebury, CT and Wendy Guglielmetti of Clermont, Fl and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was adoringly known as "Aunt Doone." She is predeceased by a brother, Louis Voegeli, Jr of Woodbury, CT.

Lorna worked for many years alongside her father at his family horse farm in Woodbury, caring for the property.  She could be seen at local parades showing their beautiful collection of miniature horses and antique carriages.  Her true passion was the children in her life, particularly her 5 beloved grandchildren for whom she baked birthday cakes, made creative Halloween costumes and introduced them to her array of crafting skills and her over the top love of holiday decorating.  She dedicated the last 12 years of her life to the children and families at North Congregational Church in Woodbury as the Christian Education Director.  She went above and beyond the call of duty, preparing for projects for days, celebrating each child's birthday, and honoring the role of families within the church community.

The family will receive family and friends at a memorial service in Lorna's honor on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m at North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North, Woodbury, CT  06798.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorna's name to North Congregational Church, Children's Programming, 11 Main Street North, Woodbury, CT  06798.
