Obituary

Loretta Mary Ward - a beacon of love, faith, and strength – her light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Loretta Ward, our leader, loving mother, aunt, and above all, our beloved Nana. At 95 years old, Loretta peacefully passed away on March 20, 2024. Born in New York, New York, on January 19, 1929, Loretta was the daughter of the late John and Loretta Lyons. Loretta fell in love with Henry Ward. They were soon after married, sharing 66 wonderful years together, building upon their love story and raising their growing family.

Throughout her life, she exemplified unwavering love for her family and deep faith in God, instilling in her loved ones the values of standing true to oneself and embracing one's identity. Loretta's compassionate spirit and vibrant personality drew friends from every corner of her life – be it Rochelle Park, Fairfield, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, or the Oxford Senior Center and Lutheran Home. She was an esteemed Rummikub champion, often found enjoying a game with friends and family. Her kindness and warmth touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Loretta's legacy resides within her seven children: Stephen & Joanne Ward, Brian & Venice Ward, Patricia & Gary Metzger, Eileen & Victor Cicchese, Ann Reno, John & Judith Ward, and Henry Ward. Her family blossomed further with 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the center of her world. She is also survived by sisters in law, Kathy and Rosemarie Ward. Loretta was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Lynch, Eleanor Lyons, Maureen Gallagher as well as her In-laws Malachy Ward, Ann and Edward Olsson, Gerard and Doris Ward, Mary and Thomas McNeil, Thomas Ward, Granddaughter Mika Tranotta.

Join us in celebrating Loretta's remarkable life at the upcoming funeral service, to be held on Wednesday, March 27, at 11 am at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N. Southbury, Connecticut. Let us honor her memory, share stories of her boundless love, and find solace in the everlasting legacy of a woman who embraced life with grace and dignity.
