Obituary

Lois F. Matthews, 92, of Waterbury, died peacefully with her family at her side Monday, November 28, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital's Vitas Unit. She was the widow of Henry A. Matthews. Mrs. Matthews was born February 7, 1919 in Woodbury, daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Young) Fray. Formerly of Middlebury, she was a veteran member of the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church. Mrs. Matthews loved to knit. She knitted sweaters for many residents of the town of Middlebury and also knitted baby blankets and outfits for newborns for the area hospitals. She was an avid fan of the UCONN men and women's basketball teams. Known lovingly as "Gram", Lois will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Platt and her husband George; her son, Donald Matthews and his wife Sharon; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her 6 brothers.

Location: Munson-Lovetere Woodbury

Services: Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11: 00 a.m. at the Middlebury Cemetery, Cemetery Rd., Middlebury.

Visitation: Calling hours are Friday, December 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St.
