Southbury

Lois Hilding Gerber died peacefully in her home in Southbury on Friday morning, January 15, 2016. She was married to the late Dr. Edward Gerber Jr., for almost 60 years.

Mrs. Gerber was born on December 27, 1926, in Hartford, CT. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Ethel (Porter) Hilding of Hebron, CT.

Mrs. Gerber graduated from Windham High School in Willimantic, CT. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Connecticut, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She taught school briefly at the Horace Porter School in Columbia, CT, and also worked in human resources at Pratt & Whitney. She later earned her realtor's license and became an associate at Country Real Estate in Woodbury, CT.

Long-time residents of Naugatuck, the Gerbers moved to Southbury in 1970. Mrs. Gerber was a dedicated member of the Waterbury Hospital Women's Auxiliary and volunteer at the Mattatuck Museum for many years. She was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants and the DAR, and both she and Dr. Gerber were active in the United Church of Christ in Southbury. When not busy volunteering, she loved being outside in her yard working in her garden.

Mrs. Gerber leaves behind her children and their families: Edward Hilding Gerber and his wife Leslie Ann Huntley, of Asheville, NC; and Pamela Gerber Mellor and her husband Craig, and their children Benjamin and Kristofer, of Fairfield, CT.
