Lewis Owen Tooker, Jr. known as Owen, of Woodbury, died Thursday, April 19, at the CT Hospice in Branford after a brief illness. Owen was born April 29, 1929 in New London, son of the late Lewis Owen and Catherine Saunders Tooker . He attended the Buckley School and the University of Connecticut. In July of 1950, when President Truman activated the 238th AAA Gun Battalion for active duty during the Korean War, Owen was stationed at Camp Stewart in Georgia and the at the Adzuki Air Base in Japan, as part of the Army of Occupation. After discharge from the Army, he joined John Hancock Financial Services and covered New England, Long Island and London, England. Retiring in 1989 as a regional office supervisor, Owen returned to school and subsequently taught E.M.T. and M.R.T courses, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Over the years in Woodbury, he volunteered his time to Woodbury Boy's Baseball, the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department and the Woodbury Volunteer Ambulance Association. At the time of his death, Owen was chairman of the Woodbury Board of Fire Commissioners. He enjoyed surf casting on Block Island with his sons and grandsons, gardening, watching the Lady Huskies basketball team and walking his dog, Basil. He is survived by his wife Shirley, three children, David Tooker of Aptos, CA, Kim Tooker Nellenbach of Glenmoore, PA and Matthew Tooker of Stonington; 3 grandsons, Michael Scott of East Hampton, Christopher and Patrick Nellenbach of Glenmoore, PA, 1 great granddaughter, Chloe Scott of East Hampton; and a sister, Sheila Dasovich of Novato, CA. A Funeral mass will be held Monday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church, Main St. South, Woodbury. Burial will be in the Old North Cemetery, Woodbury with full military honors.
