Obituary

Leo McGovern, 75, a longtime resident of Woodbury, died peacefully, on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, following a brief illness. Leo was an entrepreneur and started several businesses in Woodbury including Cine-Med, Northwood and Black Lion Vineyards.
Born on December 1, 1937, in Malden Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Francis and Agnes (MacDonald) McGovern. Leo served in the Air Force in the 1950's and was based in Japan. It was in the Air Force that he learned the craft of Cinematography, which was the basis of most of his professional career. Working in the medical field, he became an expert filmmaker and produced over 1,000 surgical teaching films. Leo traveled the world and had most notably worked in China and Iran in the late 1970's. He was also a member of the practice squad, or as he liked to say "the hamburger squad", of the Boston Patriots in early 1960's. Leo truly embraced life and brought passion to everything he did, whether it was filming a surgical procedure, building a building, traveling, creating a new business, learning the art of wine making, or just spending time with friends and family. Leo was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His devotion to his family and friends was unsurpassable.
Leo is survived by five sons: Kevin, Steven, Sean, Ryan and Darren, all of Woodbury; and five grandchildren, Ian, Matthew, Dylan, Emma, and Zach, all of Woodbury. He is also survived by numerous, nieces and nephews.
