IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leland ''Bill''
Gorton
August 22, 1938 – October 19, 2016
Leland "Bill" Gorton passed away peacefully in his home in Woodbury, CT on October 19, 2016 at the age of 78, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was born on August 22, 1938 in Norwalk, CT. He attended Fairfield Preparatory School and Fairfield University. He was later a visiting professor at Fairfield University where he taught statistics.
From the age of 19 until his retirement in 2002, Bill was employed at Norwalk Hospital. He worked the majority of his career as an Information Technology Engineer for the hospital's IT department. He loved being at the forefront of computer technology and enjoyed building computers and software, both professionally and as a hobby.
Most importantly, it was at the hospital that he met the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Donna Lee (Fontes). Bill and Donna made their home and raised their children in Woodbury, CT.
Bill was the most patient, loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Above all else, Bill cherished spending time at home with his family. He lived his last days surrounded by the love and laughter of his wife as well as his daughter Jennifer Lee Hicks and husband David, his son David Jeffrey Gorton and wife Jennifer, and his granddaughter Christine Elizabeth Gorton.
Bill had a brilliant mind and an extraordinarily inquisitive nature, both of which served him well in his many hobbies. He greatly enjoyed working with his hands and tinkering with his latest projects, which included photography, woodworking, electronics, computers, and any home carpentry project he could conceive. Bill also had a lifelong love of trains, and built many model train sets and villages. Bill was an avid reader, rarely seen without his Kindle in hand. He especially loved J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, which inspired him to write fictional short stories in the Harry Potter universe.
Bill had a great love of sports, and was a diehard fan of New York Giants football, UConn women's basketball, LA (formerly Brooklyn) Dodgers and Boston Red Sox baseball.
Other survivors include Bill's brothers Geoffrey and wife Karin, Kerry and wife Donna, and Gregory and wife Sandra, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Bill will be remembered for his gentle demeanor and sharp wit by all who knew him.
