Lee A. Nunemacher, age 75, of Woodbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 at the VITAS Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret "Marney" (Mackay) Nunemacher and widower of the late Sharon (Key) Nunemacher with whom he had two sons.
Lee was born on Sept. 23, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late George A. and Mary (Reese) Nunemacher and graduated from Kingston High School in 1959 where he played football and ran track. He earned a football scholarship to Lehigh University where he attended for a year before transferring to Wilkes College to complete a bachelor's degree in secondary education. He taught high school math in Hazleton, PA and Woodbury before changing careers to become a machinist, specializing in secondary operations in the screw machine industry. Lee was blessed with a rich baritone voice and enjoyed singing as a member of a few different church choirs and choral groups where he was often paid as a soloist and section lead. His other hobbies included playing computer games, gardening, reading, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles and watching UCONN basketball.
In addition to Marney, his beloved wife of 36 years, Lee is survived by his two sons, Kirk (Nanette) of Bridgeport, Tyson (Jenny) of Nederland, CO; his brother Dwight (Judi) of Kingston, PA; his sister Mary Beth Coldren of Glenshaw, PA; and grandchildren Matthew, Joshua, Liesl and Oskar. His first wife, Sharon, and his brother-in-law, John Coldren, predeceased him.
Lee's family would like to thank the entire staff at The Hearth at Southbury where Lee and Marney have resided for the past several months, St. Mary's Hospital and the VITAS hospice team for their loving and compassionate care.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street Woodbury, CT. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, 97 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
