Lazar Szabo, longtime resident of Heritage Village, Southbury CT, died peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his family, including his daughter Denise Hahn of Somers, New York and his son Dr. Ronald Szabo of West Hartford, CT.
Mr. Szabo who was a Holocaust survivor, was born in Germany in 1920. He immigrated to New York after World War II. He owned and operated Dental Castings, Inc., a midsized dental laboratory in New York, and through that business he became involved in creating dental prosthetics used in the film industry. Among the many films he worked on, were the Godfather, where he conceived and fabricated the jowl for Marlon Brando, and The Marathon Man, where he fabricated Dustin Hoffman's tooth. Mr. Szabo was also an avid golfer, who had won numerous trophies over the years in country club tournaments.
Mr. Szabo was known as a giving and thoughtful gentleman, beloved by family, friends and neighbors. After his retirement, he spent many years as the primary caregiver to his late beloved wife Katherine, during her battle with Parkinson's disease. In addition to his daughter and son, Mr. Szabo is survived by his son-in-law Paul Hahn, daughter-in-law Deborah Rome Szabo, 4 grandchildren, Daniel Szabo, Aaron Hahn, Ross Hahn and Carrie Szabo and 1 great granddaughter, Harper Hahn.
Memorials: The family asks that should anyone wishing to make a donation to honor Mr. Szabo's memory, that donations be made to either the Connecticut Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association or to Danbury Hospital. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home in in charge of the arrangements.
