IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laurie G.
Ryer
July 29, 1960 – September 28, 2024
Laurie Ryer passed away peacefully at her home in Southbury, CT on September 28, 2024. She was 64.
Consummate wine critic and new local beer aficionado, Laurie was the anchor of her family and tolerator of her husband. With a balanced life of work as a museum director and owner of a video production company, she produced inspiring and fund-raising pieces for non-profits. On top of all that, Laurie was also able to raise two boys, successfully keeping them out of incarceration.
Laurie designed the home where she and her husband raised their family, and her eye for design was as keen as her ear for music, no matter the occasion. Even from as young as 12 when she and her sister founded her family farm's weekly newspaper, the Longwood News (surely absorbed into the Wall Street Journal at some point!), Laurie was ever the keeper of family history.
While suffering from Alzheimer's for the past six years, Laurie was still able enjoy walks and time out with friends at local breweries & events. Her husband would like to thank all their friends (and many strangers!) for their kindness as she struggled with this horrible illness.
A private gathering will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Alzheimer's Foundation or to a cause dear to your heart.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Jeff, and two sons, Gus & Austin Ryer, along with their families.
