Obituary

Laura Eckholm Maksymiw, age 92, passed away peacefully with family members holding her hands, on February 17, 2025 in Southbury, CT. Born and raised in Trumbull and graduated from Bassick High School. She was the daughter of the late George Eckholm and Celia Guimond Eckholm.  Laura was the Chief Executive Officer for the Home Builders Association of Fairfield County for 20 years. She was known in Oxford for her work with SONCCA at Quaker Farms School, where she helped kids with homework and projects after school.

In her younger years she played the piano, traveled often, watched roller derby, and more recently knitted shawls and blankets for St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She was well known and very devoted to her church. Laura adored ice cream and anything chocolate, and enjoyed gardening in her yard, doing latch hook rugs, word search puzzles and coloring. She loved to spend time with her large family and close friends. Her favorite song was "You Are My Sunshine", which she sang to every one of her Grandchildren. She was fondly known as Meme to all the Grandchildren and Great Grandkids.

Laura is survived by her two sisters, Carol Leake and Marilyn Tiberio, and her three children, Laurie Sharp and her husband Leslie, Michael Maksymiw and his wife Karen, and Debby Maksymiw. She had seven Grandchildren: Geoffrey Sharp and wife Tiffany, Dawn Hurley and husband Brian, Bobby Sharp, Michael Maksymiw, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Christopher Maksymiw and wife Nicole, Dennis Maksymiw and wife Krissy, and Nicole Maksymiw and partner Jax Jamieson. She was blessed with sixteen Great Grandchildren, Leo, Alex, Ryder, and Drake; Alexa and Jordan; Brayden; Sofia and Julia; Brady, Aubrey and Lily; Sophie, Elliot, Adam and Oliver.
