WOODBURY
Larry Splain, 84, of Woodbury, died Saturday, October 21, at the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury after a short illness. Larry was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Xavier University. A Navy veteran, he served as a Lieutenant, JG, during World War II. He received a Masters in Communication from Syracuse University. One of Larrys passions was the English language. He was a prolific writer and an avid reader, sharing his love of literature with his students when he taught English at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and at Somers High School in Somers, NY. Larry thoroughly enjoyed conversation with friends and family about books, faith, politics, history, tennis, gardening, and his many other interests. Larry was a member of St. Teresas Church in Woodbury and active in numerous ministries. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Miriam (Stautberg) Splain. He is also survived by his children whom he treasured: a son, Mark Splain and his wife Barbara Bowen Splain of Stinson Beach, CA, and four daughters, Kathleen Partovi of West Hartford, CT, Maureen Iacono and her husband Bruce Iacono of Brewster, NY, Julianne Splain and her husband Richard Bartell of West Hartford, CT, and Martha Splain and her husband Vincent Peppe of Nashville, TN. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Andre Partovi, Nicole (Partovi) Barrion and her husband Norbert, Manuel and Teresita Splain, and Ben and Jackson Bartell; a very dear brother, William Splain of Cincinnati, OH, and his wife, Jeanne; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. The family is very grateful to his loyal and loving friends and to the caring staff at River Glen. Larry will be dearly missed but his sense of humor and joy for life will continue to inspire us.
