IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth W.
Buinauskas
March 4, 1939 – July 14, 2023
Kenneth W. Buinauskas, born March 4, 1939 passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. His departure has profoundly touched the many who knew and loved him.
He was the husband of Doris (Munson) Buinauskas, his wife of 62 years. Ken and Doris had one of those magical love stories that many only dream of and would flirt with each other right up to his passing. Ken was born in Waterbury CT to Rose (Kaminski) Buinauskas and Stanley Buinauskas and grew up in Watertown and Woodbury where he attended local schools. Ken was a proud United States Marine during the 1960's and never stopped being a Marine at heart.
Ken was a true jack of all trades and had exceptional skills in heating, plumbing, welding among other talents. He was employed by the State of Connecticut working at Southbury Training School for over 30 years. He was foreman of the machine shop and served as a firefighter on grounds. Ken loved woodworking and beautifully crafted most of the furniture in his home including a scale model of the house itself which proudly sits on the entertainment center that he also built. He loved lighthouses and built several 5-6-foot models that decorated his front yard often causing cars to stop and look. Ken was an avid fisherman teaching his children and grandchildren the sport. His favorite place to fish was Lake Willoughby in Westmore, Vermont where he sought out the evasive giant "laker." He would bring the family up there in the summer, creating magical memories for all.
He adored his children and grandchildren and was able to meet his great-grandson shortly before his passing. He began a tradition of taking his children and later his grandchildren to Santa's Land in Vermont every year, memories of which will always be cherished. Ken loved old antique cars which he could name the make, model and year on sight.
Besides his beloved wife Doris, Ken is survived by his children, Jennie (Buinauskas) and her husband Paul Purcell, and Keith and his wife Marci Buinauskas; his grandchildren David, Jessica and Sean Dwyer; Hailey, Kayla and Lindsey Buinauskas and his great grandson Dylan Dwyer along with several nieces and nephews. Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday July 20, 2023 8:30am until 10:30am at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home located 2 School St. Woodbury.
