IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen R
Hubbard
June 19, 1946 – April 28, 2019
Kathleen Rose O'Neill Hubbard, 72 of Washington, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2019 surrounded by her loving family after a brave and well-fought battle with cancer. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late John Hubbard. Kathleen was born June 19, 1946 to William and Catherine (Burns) O'Neill of Arlington, MA. She was raised in a loving Irish-Catholic home and would spend every summer in her favorite town of Scituate, MA, exploring Minot Beach. She is a 1964 graduate of Matignon High School in Cambridge, MA. She received a degree in History from Albertus Magnus College, in New Haven, CT in 1968. It was here that she also met the love of her life, John, and they were wed on June 29, 1968. After a brief stint in New York City, where Kathleen worked for Geico and Lerner New York, they moved to Washington, CT. In Washington, Kathleen worked as a librarian for the Gunn Memorial Library and as the Head of the Language Skills Department at Rumsey Hall School.
Kathleen loved to read, and she enjoyed discussing books and suggesting titles for the patrons of the library. At Rumsey, she found her true calling in teaching children with learning differences how to read and comprehend. In addition to her love of books, Kathleen also enjoyed hitting the links at the Washington Golf Course, travelling extensively all over the world to locations such as Sweden, India, Russia, and France, or just enjoying the company of good friends, including her book group, with a glass of Chardonnay. Kathleen's main passion in her life was her family, and she will be missed dearly by her four children: Brett Hubbard, and his wife, Jenny (O'Connell) of Methuen, MA; Ryan Hubbard, and his wife, Christine (Rosher) of Dedham, MA; Amanda Gilligan and her husband, Robert, of Waterbury, CT; and Mary Holknekt and her husband, Marcus, of Stockholm, Sweden. The greatest gifts Kathleen ever received were her grandchildren, and she was affectionately referred to as "Nana" or "Mormor". She is survived by her seven grandchildren: Samantha, Dylan, and Tucker Hubbard of Methuen, MA; Jonathan and Andrew Hubbard of Dedham, MA; and Stella and Rosie Holknekt of Stockholm, Sweden. She is also survived by her siblings, with whom she spent many wonderful times during Christmas Eve parties, ski trips, and beach days: Maureen Looney, and her husband, Jack, of Winchester, MA; William O'Neill, and his wife Ann, of Gloucester, MA; Brian O'Neill, and his wife, Patricia, of West Roxbury, MA; and Eileen Freeman, and her husband, David, of Williston, VT. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Altorelli, the Diebold Cancer Center, the Smilow Cancer Center, the Northwest VNA, and her countless friends for their support during this difficult time.
