MIDDLEBURY - Mrs. Justine Brockway (Upson) Arnold, a lifelong Middlebury resident, passed away peacefully at her home on July 21.

Justine was born in Waterbury on June 23, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles Hiram Upson and Gertrude Whittemore Upson of Middlebury. She was pre-deceased by her former husband, Charles Granniss Arnold, as well as her daughter, Justine Arnold Smith, and son, Charles Granniss Arnold, Jr. She is survived by her son Jonathan P. Arnold and wife Lauri, of Louisville, Ky., her son David W. Arnold, of Dorset, Vt., four grandchildren, her sister Thyrza Upson Christel and husband Norbert, of Middlebury, and brother Charles Hiram Upson III of Washington, Ct., eight nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

She was educated in local schools, at the Westover School in Middlebury, and Sarah Lawrence College. In her younger years, she was an active volunteer locally. She was also a longtime member of the Middlebury Congregational Church.

Justine's later years were spent in good health and filled with her love for her home and family.

A memorial service will be held at the Middlebury Congregational Church on Saturday July 28, 2018 at noon.
