Obituary

Living a long life well lived, Mr. Smotroff was a dedicated father and provider, proudly raising three sons with his wife of 60 years, Charlotte. Julius grew up in the Bronx borough of New York City, graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School.  He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II.  Sergeant Smotroff was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal as well as Meritorious Service Medal from the State of New Jersey.

Artistic and creative, he transitioned his skills and merged his passion for fabrics, color and interior design with his hard work ethic into a 40-year career in the decorative fabrics industry. He spent much of his life living in New Jersey, and then in Connecticut, but always considered himself a "New Yorker" and a die-hard Yankee Fan.

Julius Smotroff loved music and passed that passion on to his three sons. He always sang in the car encouraging all to sing along and harmonize. His hobbies included gardening, restoring and reupholstering antique furniture, renovating his fixer-upper home. He enjoyed reading and loved watching swashbuckling action movies as well as classic sing and dance musicals from the 1940s and '50s.

Always on the go, Julius supported volunteer engagement wherever he could, including his wife's philanthropic activities and his three sons Boy Scouts adventures. In life he took pride supporting Temple B'nai Israel of Southbury and its Mitzvah Garden as well as the Jewish Federation Senior programs and Woodbury Senior Center. Amiable and good humored, Smotroff endeared himself to all he met. Julius is survived by sons Larry, Ira, and Mark and their families.
