Obituary

Judithann Noecker Sonnemann, age 70, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015, at home in Southbury, CT. She was the wife of David B. Sonnemann. Mrs. Sonnemann was born on May 21, 1944, in Huntington, WV, to the late Franklin Noecker and Arlene Fehnel Noecker Calahan. Known to friends and family as Judy, she was raised in Nazareth, PA, where she lived until she and Dave were married. Mrs. Sonnemann graduated from Bucknell University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She and her husband married in 1967, and soon thereafter moved to Germany with the U.S. Army. After returning from Europe, they moved frequently until finally settling in Southbury in 1986. Judy enjoyed working with the elderly, and spent many years as a medical records auditor at Ashlar of Newtown. She was very active in her faith. At North Congregational Church of Woodbury, she served as the president of Women's Fellowship and sang in the choir. She was also a dedicated member of the local chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, an international Christian women's philanthropy. Judy spent her summers at the family cabin in the Poconos, where she led the Board of Trustees for the Promised Land Protestant Community Church. "Oma", as she was known to her grandchildren, loved the outdoors and played games with them whenever they visited the cabin. Judy loved music and dancing, jokes, crosswords, and playing cards and word games. She spent countless hours researching her family genealogy, traveling to Pennsylvania and the Mormon library in Salt Lake City in pursuit of family history.

She is survived by her husband, David; their three daughters: Terri Gigante and her husband Len of Waterbury, CT; Tracy Sonnemann of Randolph, MA; and Jessica Schamburg and her husband Doug of Bel Air, MD. In addition Judy leaves behind her grandchildren: Oliver, Wren, Piper and Peyton Schamburg, as well as twins who are expected to join the family in May. Mrs. Sonnemann was predeceased by her brother, Jeffrey H. Noecker.
