Obituary


Judith L. Mastrianna, 77, of Wheeler Road died Tuesday March 22, 2011 at Milford Hospital. Mrs. Mastrianna was the wife of Henry R. Mastrianna for 56 years. Mrs. Mastrianaa was born July 21, 1933 in Waterbury daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Deegan) Leary .
Mrs. Mastrianna received her Masters degree from Southern Connecticut State University. A long time resident of Middlebury, Mrs. Mastrianna had served on the Planning and Zoning Board, was a communicant of St. John of the Cross church, and had served on its' altar guild. Active in the community, she had served on the Board of Waterbury Youth Services, the Colonial Bank Advisory Board and was a member of the Waterbury Symphony. Mrs. Mastrianna had a love and devotion for not only her children and grandchildren, but for the children of others as well. This passion for the well being and education of children guided her career path throughout her lifetime. She had taught at the elementary levels at Mt. Carmel School, and taught ESL at Naugatuck Valley Community College. She was instrumental in the design and development of the Rainbow House, a safe home in Waterbury for abused children. In 1976, she opened a successful daycare, The Nest in Middlebury which still operates under her daughters' guidance today.
She enjoyed wintering with her husband in Siesta Key in Florida, where she was a member of St. Michael's Church. Besides her husband she is survived by 2 sons, David of Prospect, Paul of Milford, 2 daughters Elizabeth of Woodbury, Leslie of Middlebury, a brother Richard Leary of Meriden, and 8 grandchildren.

Services: A funeral mass will be held on Saturday March 26, 2011 at 10 am at St John of the Cross church in Middlebury.

Visitation: There are no calling hours.
