IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph
Santonocito
August 22, 1943 – April 19, 2014
Joseph A. Santonocito, 70, of Southbury passed away peacefully at his home in
Heritage Village on Saturday, April 19, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with
cancer. He was the devoted and loving husband to Geraldine Santonocito.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 22, 1943 to parents Anna and Joseph Santonocito.
After receiving his Master's degree in Public Health Administration, Joe worked at
Jerome Home in New Britain and various other long term care and rehab facilities
throughout Connecticut. He generously volunteered his time to fundraise for the March of Dimes.
He was passionate about his politics and once elected in 2009, he proudly served on
the Board of Selectmen for Southbury.
Joe will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful and sincere person, as well as a
valuable contributor to his community. Loved ones and friends were drawn to his
charm, optimism and warmth. Despite suffering for many years with illnesses, he was
upbeat, good-humored and thoughtful toward others. He lived his life with integrity and
pride. He appreciated so much in this world, his caring wife Geri and family, sports,
public service, Martha's Vineyard, nature, antiques, fine food, deep conversations and
his much adored Bichon Frise, Sammy.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Geraldine; his daughter Sandra
Santonocito and grandson, Michael Polley of Danbury; his daughter Christine and
husband Denis Ruzika of Anderson, SC; and grandchildren Ashley, Rachel, and
Matthew. He will also be missed by his four cousins. He is predeceased by his parents
Anna and Joseph; and grandson, Kenneth Sean Polley of Danbury.
His family is thankful for the fine health care Joe received over the years from his many
doctors, nurses, and most recently, the caring staff at River Glen Nursing Home,
Masonic Care, and home health aids, Lynn Richter and Sam Williams.
