IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph
Marciano
October 6, 1930 – June 11, 2011
Mr. Joseph Marciano, 80, of Heritage Village died Saturday June 11, 2011 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis (Borrelli) Marciano.
Mr. Marciano was born October 6, 1930 in Waterbury, son of the late Anthony and Alice (Carberry) Marciano. He was a graduate of St. Mary's School and Cheshire Academy Prep School. He was also a graduate of the Submarine School in New London and was a veteran of the US Navy. In 1950 Joe started his own business, Naugatuck Window and Glass Co. that he owned for 39 years before retiring in 1988. During that time he also played amateur baseball and tried out for the Boston Red Sox. He started the 444 Boy Scout Troop and served as their Scout Master. He was a resident of Middlebury for 40 years, where he was on the board of several commissions and served under 5 town selectman before moving to Heritage Village in 1999. Joe was a member of St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury where he served on the finance board and was a maintenance advisor. He was also on the board of senior housing of Woodside Heights in Middlebury and was involved since it started. In Heritage Village, he was on the landscaping board and was a maintenance representative. Joe enjoyed building, remodeling and landscaping and as a hobby he and his wife designed and built two homes in Middlebury. He also remodeled two homes in Shelter Harbor, Rhode Island, two condos on Indian River in Vero Beach, Florida and two condos in Heritage Village. He spent "thoroughly memorable" God given time in each with family and friends.
Joe was generous with his possessions and had a gift for befriending people from all walks of life. He had an infectious gregarious nature that made all feel comfortable; his kindness and generosity were a model to all who crossed his path. He had a passionate love of country and service. He loved to talk about subjects ranging from flowers and landscaping, to music and fine food. He loved having a cocktail with his wife and looking at his perfectly kept lawn. He would offer his lawn mower to anyone. He took his young family to New York City often for everything from haircuts at The Plaza Hotel, to shopping at Brooks Brothers, to dining at the 21 Club. He let his under-age son order wine often, and loved to see his kids develop their passion for learning, music, and travel. He lived by his favorite quote from Hamlet: "To thine own self be true." He will also be remembered for something he said often to people every day: How can I help?
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two sons, Professor Joseph Marciano Jr. and his wife Virginia of Maryland and Gerard Marciano, Ed.M, and his wife Christine of Tarrytown, New York, two granddaughters, Amelia and Sasha, a half sister Patricia Ritter and a niece Barre Ritter.
