Obituary


Joseph Adrian Foster, 78, of Woodbury passed away peacefully on June 12, 2012 at the Palliative Care Unit of Hartford Hospital. His wife, Lorraine R. Foster, preceded him in death.
Mr. Foster was born January 25, 1934 in Middlesex County, outside of London, England, son of the late Joseph and Eileen (Carey) Foster. Before immigrating to the United States in January 1956, he served as a medic in the Royal Air Force, England. He received his U.S. citizenship in 1962. Upon his entry into the U.S., he first settled in Waterbury and later was a Naugatuck resident before becoming a permanent member of the Woodbury community.
His degrees included a B.S. degree from Quinnipiac College with High Honors, 1967 and a M.S. from the University of New Haven, 1984.
He worked as an accountant at several companies, including Scoville and International Silver before beginning his private practice in 1975 in Woodbury. He was innovative at writing the first computer-based programs for accounting; being self-taught at computer programming, as profiled in "The Bee" newspaper in 1979. He established his present office at Woodbury Commons in 1987.
He believed in giving back to the community through blood donations, earning upwards of the ten-gallon pin. He also served as a Volunteer Ambulance member for the town of Naugatuck.
He leaves his children, Kevin Foster, Kimberly F. Wilson and husband Norman "Jay", Glenn Foster and wife Carol, and Amy Foster; his stepchildren, Edward Richardson and wife Barbara, Colleen Ferrucci and husband Anthony and Gary Richardson. Grandchildren include Kelci Wilson, Nathanael, Lauren and Abby Foster, Keith Ferreira, Lori Richards and husband Joe, Tiffany Richardson, Victoria Richardson and three great grandchildren, Madelyn, Tyler and Ashley Richards. He also leaves a sister, Margaret "Molly" White of Buckinghamshire, England.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 64 Holmes Avenue, Waterbury, CT 06710.

Cemetery: New North Cemetery

Location: Munson-Lovetere Woodbury

Funeral: St. Teresa's Church

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 16 at 10: 00 a.m. at St.Teresa's of Avila Church, Main St. South, Woodbury. Burial will be in the New North Cemetery, Woodbury.

Visitation: Calling hours Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St.
