Obituary

Southbury -
Mr. Joseph Briechle, 102, of East Hill Rd. died Tuesday October 31st at East Hill Woods Health Care Center. He was the widower of Margaret (Michel) Briechle. Mr. Briechle was born June 12, 1904 in Lindenberg, Germany son of the late Cyprian and Katerina (Wiedemann) Briechle.
Mr. Briechle immigrated to the United States at age 19 and within two weeks started working as a tool maker for A. Schrader's Son Inc., a Tire Valve Manufacturing Company that was taken over by Scoville Manufacturing in 1928. He attended evening classes at high schools and then took Engineering courses at The Pratt Institute. After Joseph married his boss' oldest daughter in 1938, the Briechles lived first in Floral Park and then became Connecticut residents residing first in New Canaan, Redding, Woodbury, and 10 years in Heritage Crest prior to moving to East Hill Woods in August 2000. By the time Joseph retired at age 61, after working 42 years, he was the Chief Development Engineer for the company and had 11 automotive patents in his name, three of which were on tire valve design. Designing mechanical items is both his vocation and avocation, which he comes by naturally as his grandfather and great grandfather were both organ builders. In addition, he played the piano and enjoyed listening to music.
He is survived by two sons, George Briechle and his wife Nancy of Punta Gorda, FL, and Robert Briechle and his wife Ann of Hudson, Ohio, a daughter Marion Yonce and her husband John of Alexandria, VA, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 nephew. He was predeceased by a brother Ernest Briechle.
