John H. Morrell, 91, of Southbury, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Danbury Hospital. Mr. Morrell was the widower of Rita (Ptacek) Morrell. He was born January 17, 1917 in the Bronx, NY, son of the late John A. and Minnie (Maloney) Morrell. Mr. Morrell was a retired Vice-President and member of the Board of Directors for General Paper Goods Manufacturing Co. in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Morrell was a lifetime member of the 7th Regiment of the New York Army National Guard and a decorated WW II Army combat veteran. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel while on active duty and assigned to the 8th Armored Division in the European Theatre of Operations. A Southbury resident for over 22 years, he served on the Heritage Village Board and was a former President of the Condominium Association. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a volunteer with the Heritage Village Ambulance Association and the Lutheran Home of Southbury. He is survived by a son, Michael Morrell of Pelham, NY; three daughters, Patricia Amaral of Hamden, Donna Pinney of New York City and Marita Morrell of Southbury; and 8 grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son, John H. Morrell, Jr.

Services: A mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 27 at Noon at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in the spring.
Visitation: Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the daily chapel of the church.
