Obituary

Jupiter, Florida- Dr. John Albert Lovetere, 81, of Jupiter, Florida died on Friday, August 2, 2024.

John was born October 14, 1942 in Waterbury, second son of the late Joseph F. and Mary (Mae) (Kyasukas) Lovetere. Raised above his family's supermarket, The Food Liner in Oakville, three generations lived together in an Italian/Lithuanian household. It was there that Johnny was taught the importance of family, food and hard work. He was a graduate of Watertown High School, where he was told by a counselor that he probably would not amount to much and that he should not pursue higher education. This lit a fire in him to make something of himself and after consulting with a family friend, he set off for Dental school.

He excelled at Bowdoin College and Georgetown University, where he put himself through Dental School working as a U.S. Capitol police officer. It was there in Washington D.C. that he met the love of his life, Nancy R. Dearborn, straight from the great State of Maine.

After receiving his Doctorate from Boston University in 1969, Doc and Nanny returned to Connecticut, settling in Woodbury where he had a successful orthodontic practice in Woodbury & Watertown for over 30 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Jupiter Inlet Offshore Fishing Club, where he had won numerous awards in the Palm Beach Offshore Fishing competitions throughout the years. Doc and Nanny had enjoyed summering at their home in Freeport, Maine. Before retiring to Jupiter, Florida, he had worked in the medical division for the Connecticut State Police and for Region #14 as School District Dentist. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church, the Woodbury Lions Club, and had served on the Board of Waterbury and St. Mary's Hospitals.

He is survived by his daughter Lissa Stone and her husband Mark, his son Dr. Duke Lovetere, his best friend and grandson Andrew Stone, his granddaughter Evelyn Stone, and his sister-in-law Constance Wagner and her husband William.

Besides his beloved wife Nancy, who tragically predeceased him 15 years ago, he was predeceased by his brother and sister, Joe & Mary-Frances Lovetere.

Friends may call at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School Street, on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Teresa's of Avila Church, 146 Main Street South, on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the New North Cemetery.
