John B. Lewis, 86, of Plantsville, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of the late Jean A. (Sperring) Lewis. Mr. Lewis was born February 22, 1924, son of the late Lyman D. and Gladys (Burton) Lewis. For 42 years, Mr. Lewis worked For Connecticut Light and Power and Northeast Utilities, retiring in 1986 as Superintendent of Meter Operations. He served with the Army Engineers during WW II. He was stationed in Huntsville, Alabama and Los Alamos, New Mexico where he worked on and designed test equipment for the Atomic Bomb. A car enthusiast, Mr. Lewis restored antique cars. He also enjoyed photography, playing piano and keyboard and traveling the United States, especially the Southwest. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the lights of his life. He is survived by his sons, Gary B. Lewis and his wife Marguerite, and Stephen E. Lewis; 2 granddaughters, Janet Kent and Karen Laham; 6 great grandchildren, Victoria Rapela, Jacob and Benjamin Laham, Phillip, Chelsea and Gregory Kent; numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Dorothy (Lewis) Stothart and Marilyn (Lewis) Boulier.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNACC Hospice Program, 56 West Main St., Plainville, CT 06062.
Cemetery: Pine Hill Cemetery
Location: Munson-Lovetere Southbury
Services: Funeral services will be held Friday, August 13, at 11: 00 a.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury.
Visitation: Calling hours Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
