John G. Jenkins Jr. died peacefully on July 24th, surrounded by his family at Yale New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle with Lymphoma.
John was born on July 12th, 1940 in Waterbury, CT. He was the son of the late Eva and John Jenkins of Bethlehem, CT. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Barbara Jenkins of Bethlehem, his daughter Heather and her husband Rob Burke of Woodury, and his daughter Barbara and her husband Gene Steneck of Oxford. He also leaves his grandchildren Katie Burke, R.J. Burke, John Steneck and Madeline Steneck. He is also survived by his sisters, Jane Truelove of Morris and Jean Nietupski and her husband Lee of Torrington, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was a very loving husband, father, son and brother. He had great pride in his career with Silliman Co. and O & G Industries. He managed countless construction projects including the construction of the I-84 bridge over Lake Zoar in Southbury. In addition to operating the O & G quarry in Southbury for 34 years, he took on a new project in 2006 to develop the O & G quarry in New Milford.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed endless hours hunting and fishing. He traveled regularly to Rhode Island where he fished on his beloved boat "The Blue J". He shared this love with many family members and friends throughout the years. Another passion of John's was his love of stock car racing. He raced modified stock cars for Southern New York Racing Association at the Danbury Fair Race Arena for many years where he made many good friends.

Services: A memorial service will be held Friday July 31st at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 283 Main St North in Southbury.
Visitation: Calling hours will be at the Southbury Funeral Homes of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St North on Thursday July 30th from 4 - 7 p.m.
