WWII Veteran from New Preston
John Francis "Jack" Dwyer departed this life peacefully on 15 September 2015 at Village Crest in New Milford CT. Jack was born in New Haven on 21 April 1921 to Evelyn McGrath and John Dwyer and spent his youth in the nearby community of Short Beach. In 1942 after graduating Branford High School he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. Trained as a B-24 Flight Engineer and turret gunner he flew bombing missions over Europe for the 8th Air Force stationed in Rackheath, England. For a time he was attached to Wild Bill Donovan's covert Night Leaflet Squadron. For 18 years he was employed as electrical foreman for the State of Connecticut Highway Department and later retired from the maintenance staff of Aerospace Corp. in Bantam, CT. Before retiring to North Fort Myers, FL, Jack resided on Lake Waramaug in New Preston, CT. He returned to Connecticut to spend his last years closer to his family. He will be fondly remembered for his blustery Irish charm and humor. He is predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Beverley Bruneau, and a sister Rosemary Lachance. He is survived by children Jean Chapin of New Preston, John Dwyer of Southbury, William Dwyer of Fort Myers, Florida and Robert Dwyer of Waterbury, in addition to 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
